There are a number of ways you may travel about Eorzea in the course of your adventures.
This is the most basic form of transportation. To move your character, simply use the W, S, D, and A keys, or the gamepad controls configured for movement (by default, the left analog stick).
You can toggle between walking and running modes by pressing the X key.
For details, refer to
Controlling Your Character.
* | You can check your walking/running status with the movement indicator on the right-hand side of the player unit frame. For details, refer to The Game Screen. |
You can instantly warp to the many aetheryte crystals and aetherial gates located throughout Eorzea. The Teleport command allows you to reach any aetheryte to which you have previously attuned, while Return can be used to travel back to either the aetheryte associated with a quest currently underway, or the aetheryte you most recently visited.
To use the Teleport and Return commands, simply select them from the interaction menu.
For details, refer to
Aetheryte.
Lifts can be found in many multistory structures, and enable you quick passage from one floor to another.
To use a lift, simply select it from the interaction menu and then choose the desired floor when prompted.
The following are two of Eorzea’s more well known lifts:
- | Crow’s Lift: Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks (7, 5) / Lower Decks (7, 5) |
|
- | Wellhead Lift: Ul'dah Merchant Strip (6, 4) / Hustings Strip (6, 4) |
The docks located in the Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks (3, 5) and Western Thanalan (4, 26) are connected via a ferry route.
Speak with the NPC at the entrance counter to enter. Once inside, you will automatically board the next ferry that departs.
After arriving at your destination, speak with the NPC at the exit counter to exit.
* | Gil is not required to board a ferry. |
|
* | You will be unable to board a ferry if you log out, teleport, or return before it has departed. If you have done so, you will need to reenter the docks to board. |
By paying a fee in gil to one of the stablemaster NPCs found throughout the world, you can rent a chocobo mount for a set length of time.
Renting a chocobo enables you to ride it beyond the confines of the city and direct it in the great outdoors however you wish.
When mounted, a chocobo icon will appear on your micro menu. To dismount, either click this icon, press the F key, or the use the Passive/Active Mode button on the gamepad.
Stablemaster NPCs can be found at the following locations:
- | Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks (7,5): Isleen |
|
- | Gridania (6,5): Fruhdhem |
|
- | Ul'dah Merchant Strip (6,3): Rururaji |
|
- | Ferry Docks, Western Thanalan (4,26): L'dhakya |
* | Only players with a minimum of one class at level 10 or above can rent chocobos. |
|
* | You cannot remount a rented chocobo once you have dismounted. |
|
* | A timer is displayed in the upper left portion of the screen while mounted on a rental chocobo. You will automatically be dismounted when this timer reaches zero. |
Obtaining a
chocobo whistle key item will enable you to summon your own personal chocobo mount whenever you wish.
Refer to the
Grand Company Guide for information on obtaining a chocobo whistle.
* | Chocobos cannot be summoned within cities, dungeons, or while in combat. |
|
* | Players who possess a chocobo whistle can travel instantaneously from the chocobo stables to outside the city on chocoback by speaking with one of the stablemaster NPCs. |
Riding Chocobos
- | Hostile enemies may still attack you even while you are mounted. |
|
- | Damage suffered while mounted will reduce your HP in the same manner as normal combat. |
|
- | You can dismount your chocobo at any time by clicking the chocobo icon on the micro menu. |
|
- | Your chocobo’s speed may decrease as a result of being attacked. |
|
- | If your chocobo incurs too much damage, it will buck you and run away. |
|
- | The following actions cannot be performed while mounted:
Attacks / Actions / Casting / Gathering / Synthesis / Repairing / Using items / Interacting with NPCs / Accessing aetheryte |
|
- | Chocobos are unable to enter certain locations, such as cities and dungeons. |
These flying machines allow high-speed travel between the three city-states of Limsa Lominsa, Gridania, and Ul’dah.
To board an airship, simply speak to the NPC behind the counter at any airship landing and pay the boarding fee.
Below is a list of ways to access each of the three city-states’ airship landings:
- | Use the Crow’s Lift in the Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks (7, 5) or Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks (7, 5) and select Limsa Lominsa Landing. |
|
- | Go to the bottom floor of the Adventurers' Guild in Gridania (6, 6). |
|
- | Use the Wellhead Lift in the Ul’dah Merchant Strip (6, 4) or Ul’dah Hustings Strip (6, 4) and select Ul’dah Landing. |
City Aetherial Transportation Network
Players who possess an aetherpass can talk to NPCs manning the aether gates in a city to view a list of destinations and warp instantly to any one of them. No gil is required for this service.
* | Aetherpasses are valid for use only in the city specified. |
|
* | Aetherpasses can be obtained from the Grand Companies in exchange for company seals. For details on acquiring aetherpasses, refer to the Grand Company Guide. |
